Over 100 years ago, a French physiologist named Dr. Claude Bernard formulated a theory that the primary cause of most illness and disease was due to imbalances in the underlying biochemistry of the body. He believed that disturbances in the body's "Milieu Interior" or "Biological Terrain" compromised cellular functioning.
Dr. Bernard's theory was opposed by Dr. Louis Pasteur. Dr. Pasteur subscribed to the theory that microbes outside of the body, such as germs, bacteria and viruses, caused most illness and disease. These two scientists opposed one another for many years. Pasteur's germ theory overcame far sounder theories to become the medical paradigm of modern times.
Shortly before Pasteur's death, he was quoted as claiming that Bernard's "Milieu Interior" theory was indeed correct and that illness and disease are caused primarily by imbalances in the body's Biological Terrain.
The Biological Terrain is the extracellular fluid that bathes and nourishes the more than one hundred trillion cells in the human body.
Extracellular fluid is all body fluid outside of the cells. Disturbances or imbalances in this cellular environment affect the entire body, including the immune system.
There is scientific research that indicates that chronic, degenerative disease begins in this extracellular fluid.
When cells live in an unhealthy Biological Terrain that lacks the proper pH balance or is lacking nutrients, the cells can become unhealthy and fail to thrive.
Too few, as well as too many, nutrients and substances in the terrain can interfere with the cells’ ability to receive the critical balance of elements that they need to survive.
When these stressful conditions persist, the cells lose their vitality, becoming more
susceptible to the effects of microbes and organisms such as bacteria, viruses, parasites,
germs and fungus.
The result is degeneration, illness and disease.
Common medical tests are largely based on blood analysis. This form of analysis is most efficient when examining for disease that is fairly advanced, as it measures the chemistry inside the cells where disease is seen in its later stages.
The Bio-Terrain Analysis (BTA) technology is based, primarily, on urinalysis and is designed to objectively show what direction your health is heading and to monitor it's progress.
BTA offers early detection of illness tendencies, including the risk of cancer, bacterial infections, heart disease, diabetes, and acute conditions in the liver, gall bladder and pancreas.
The Integra Bio-Terrain Analysis is a collection of over 15 comprehensive, yet affordable, tests. With one urine specimen, these tests provide a reliable picture of the nutritional and biological terrain of your body.
Each test provides a piece of the puzzle, which when viewed collectively, presents important clues about the specific underlying nutritional causes blocking your health and vitality.
There have been many articles written and stories done on the importance of antioxidants and free radicals. However, before you run out and buy your next bottle of antioxidants to combat all those free radicals, you should find out what your body needs. Too many antioxidants can be as harmful as not enough.
Antioxidants quench free radicals. Some free radicals are harmful and so quenching them is good. But the body also uses free radicals for intercellular and intracellular communication. Quenching those free radicals will prevent needed signals from getting through and that is going to be harmful.
The tests include: your pH levels, malabsorption/dysbiosis (intestinal health), causes of inflammation, free radical activity, adrenal stress, sugar metabolism, nutritional deficiencies including the status of specific enzymes, minerals and vitamins; electrolyte, ammonia and nitric oxide levels, Chemstrip Urine Test and more.

Your urine holds many clues about your health, which is why physicians in ancient times studied its color, smell and taste as a way to diagnose disease. In the United States, before medicine became so specialized, “General practitioners” routinely did in-office urinalysis.
Though we have been conditioned to think of urine as "dirty," quite the opposite is true. Urine is not a dirty and toxic substance rejected by the body. Urine is a by-product of blood filtration, not waste filtration.
Nutrient-filled blood passes through the liver where toxins are removed to be excreted as solid waste. Eventually, this purified "clean" blood is filtered in the kidneys, where excess water, salts, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, antibodies, urea, and other elements, not usable at that time by the body, are collected in the form of a purified, sterile, watery solution that is urine.
Urine fresh from the "spigot" is actually sterile, devoid of any pathogens at all, (except in the case of a urinary or kidney infection). Urine is 95 percent water. The other five percent of our urine is made of dissolved and suspended solids, none of which are toxic.
Your urine is your metabolic diary; it contains a wealth of bio-chemical information that shows how your cells and organs are functioning. All bio-chemical processes of your body leave residues that eventually find their way to the urine.
The first time around, we must include all of the tests to determine your overall level of health.
A lab fee of $95.00 includes the complete panel of tests and a BioTerrain Analysis “kit”.
You will pay $40 when you pick up your kit and can pay the balance when we meet to discuss your results. You will need also need a 1 hr ($75) consultation appointment to review your lab results and discuss a treatment plan.
Once we have identified where your Bio-Terrain needs balancing, we can re-test just those areas in order to monitor your progress and the effectiveness of your treatment.
After your Bio-Terrain balance has been restored, testing 2-4 times per year can help you maintain your health. It is much easier to maintain health and balance than to repair damage once it is done.

Based on the BTA, changes can be made at the cellular level that helps your body to naturally combat illness and disease. The BTA is important in providing individualized treatment; every body is unique and must be treated specifically. People who appear to have similar conditions may have differing biochemistries which require different methods of treatment.
How many times have you taken herbs, vitamins and minerals and felt better for only a short period of time? That's because you've not made a change on the cellular level.
Nutritional supplements can be objectively targeted for faster and more effective results, saving you both time and money. Your progress can also be accurately tracked to monitor the success of the treatment and help direct the course of action to full health.
Call me to pick up a BioTerrain Analysis “kit”. This includes instructions, a urine specimen cup, a chart for recording your information and a packet of pH strips.
For a period of five days you will use the pH strips to measure your first morning’s saliva and urine pH and your second urine pH. You will record this information on your chart (this will give us an average baseline of your overall pH levels).
You will follow a few dietary restrictions for days 4 & 5. On day 6, you will collect the first urine of the morning in the urine specimen cup and deliver it to my office at Asante, Center for Empowered Health.
It will take approximately 3 days to receive your results. When your results are in, I will contact you to set up an appointment to go over your results and design a plan, tailored to you and your lifestyle, so you can achieve your optimum level of health.
